The communities where Wecyclers works have been overlooked for years. Wecyclers enables households to remove trash from their local environment while benefitting from the value captured from recyclable waste. Our model has the potential to improve the living conditions of over one billion people at the base of the pyramid by turning trash into economic opportunity.
We reward people for recycling by delivering redeemable points to households via SMS on simple mobile phones. Our low-cost fleet of bicycle-powered collection vehicles offer convenient collection services to households and stable employment opportunities to existing informal waste pickers.
Our team is scrappy! We are united by the desire to turn trash – a festering problem in the developing world – into environmental, social, and economic opportunity. Hailing from five different countries, we have all confronted the reality of unmanaged trash. We formed our team during studies at MIT and Harvard. Now that we have graduated we are using our education and networks to build Wecyclers. We have already conducted in-country research and established government and NGO connecting in Lagos to lay the groundwork for our launch this August.
