The Ummah Shop Austin

The Ummah Shop is an Islamic clothing, book and gift store for the entire community. With a growing Muslim population and no established business of this kind, The Ummah Shop aspires to fill this void and inspire others to fulfill the needs of their community as well.

The Future We Are Creating

Our vision is to create a store which will be the heartbeat of the austin Muslim community. A place which unites brothers and sisters which meets their Islamic and modesty needs and also is a resource for our neighbors and friends to learn about Islam as well. Ideally pioneering a store like this will inspire others to assess the needs of their community and strive towards fulfilling them.

How We Are Creating It

Our Main course of action is to establish the store. The store will contain a wide variety of products for all the Muslims needs. The store will also have a "Dawah section", with books and pamphlets for our non-Muslim friends who'd like to learn more. We will have a community board for announcements as well as another board for advertisements and business cards of local businesses. We are already in the process of gathering information from the community to establish a local business directory.

Our Story & Why You Should Support Us

My name is Shanada. I am a revert to Islam since 2006 alhumdulillah. I am a wife and mother of 3 small children Masha Allah. When I began to observe hijab, I was frustrated by the lack of resources for modest clothing in the area and skeptical of online purchases. I learned others shared my position. So, in 2009 I began selling Islamic clothing from home at gatherings I called “Abaya Parties”. Starting with a very small investment made variety limited, however “Abaya Parties by Shanada” continued to flourish. It was a beautiful “marriage” of sisterhood and shopping. However, it could not meet the ever-growing demands of the booming Austin Muslim population. In addition to Abaya Parties, I would often “set-up shop” at our community gatherings, festivals, and carnivals. All of which were wonderful experiences, but too few and far between to accommodate our community needs properly.  Its been a great experiences having the parties but now its time to move forward, and serve the greater Central Texas Community.
