The Gazelle Project

Job creation is the single biggest public policy challenge faced in the United States if the economy is ever to seriously recover. The Gazelle Goal aims is to light a fire under job creation by helping small businesses learn how to become Gazelles: growing 20% or more consistently per year. The Gazelle Project will research how existing Gazelles got that way, so others can replicate best practices and thrive. The research will be used to create the Gazelle Blueprint, which we hope to give away (rather than selling) to anyone who wants to use it.

The Future We Are Creating

Unemployment nationwide is near 10% and in some places it's as high as 25%...not counting the people who have dropped out of the labor market out of sheer discouragement. The nation needs at least 244,000 new jobs per month to get back to normal unemployment of 5% over the next three years. In May, only 55,000 jobs were created. At the same time, major sectors of the job market - housing, government, and manufacturing - are not going to come back, at least not in time to rescue the economy. Public discourse about how to create jobs needs to gather steam, and fast - so that business, government, and the public can find the best solutions to this critical and immediate need.

How We Are Creating It

We will work with Inc Magazine's list of 5000 existing Gazelles, choosing a sample of businesses from that list and studying them to see where the common business strategies are. We will turn this into a blueprint that public policy makers and small businesses can use to spur the sustainable, responsible, rapid growth that generates jobs fast.

Our Story & Why You Should Support Us

Remy Gervais and Jayne Speich have been coaching and consulting with small businesses for a long time. Undaunted by The Great Recession, we are convinced that both business and government need to shift their thinking about how to grow the economy. Business is caught in an outdated model that is rule- bound and hierarchical, at a time when foresight and innovation are the central imperative. We champion a panpreneurial approach, where everyone in a business from the owner to the mail room clerk takes accountability for individual and team results. Employers need to recognize that work matters to employees - they're not just in it for the paycheck. Employees need to recognize that they must add value to a business, not just show up and execute tasks. You could call us evangelists for a point of view that will forever shift how business is done!
