Prop Roots strives for the empowerment of the children of the Jingpo minority in a remote part of China, struck by cultural erosion and immense problems around drugs and AIDS, by raising the kids’ self esteem through creative and language education and intercultural exchange. Founder Dr. Anton Lustig is also the world’s main specialist on the Jingpo’s language. Urgent help is needed for a very crucial step: FINISHING the PROJECT CENTER! So that Prop Roots team and volunteers can work from the Heart of the Jingpo homeland!

The Future We Are Creating

Prop Roots wants all Jingpo children to be brought up in a suitable educational environment that fosters positive self-esteem and healthy development.

Our Slogan: Empower Jingpo children with their own culture, their own creativity!

Our next important step is to build a PROJECT CENTER for doing more and better activities regularly and while permanently based in a Jingpo village, and for lodging volunteers from around the globe, and other guests that wish to contribute: educators, researchers and artists.

How We Are Creating It

The foundation of this project lies in the 20-year strong bond of founder Dr. Anton Lustig with the Jingpo people. After many years of fieldwork and research on their language, he and the project team now focus on offering the Jingpo children creative and language education combined with various ways of intercultural exchange. Dr. Anton Lustig himself is also a painter and a musician.

Buiding confidence is the key of our project. In our Summer camps, Jingpo kids become teachers, sharing local knowledge of nature and Jingpo culture with kids from big cities, during which they naturally aquire happiness and pride of their homeland and themselves.

We already did a lot of holiday activities in Jingpo villages - on our own expense - but now are making our Next Big Step: to build our PROJECT CENTER, which will enable us to do bigger activities for the Jingpo kids, and be permanently based in the Jingpo mountains, while also enabling volunteers, researchers and other good-willing people from all over the world to stay in the village.

Our Story & Why You Should Support Us

We aren't starters anymore, but this is indeed the first time we are petitioning for money.

The construction of our PROJECT CENTER turned out to be much more expensive than previously thought, with labor costs are just as high as in the cities, and material costs even much higher, whereas the required anti-earthquake measurements are also rocketing our budget.
