We sell the Ruby Cup, a menstrual cup in order to address the lack of affordable and available menstrual hygiene products in developing countries through sustainable business and education.

The Future We Are Creating

We will create a future of sustainable and affordable female sanitation to girls and women in developing countries that today struggle to afford disposable sanitary towels/tampons.

Did you ever think that lack of menstrual hygiene products could be the reason for why girls from poor families drop out of school? We neither, but when we found out, we decided to make a social business with the purpose of creating an affordable and sustainable alternative to the costly disposable pads you have to buy every month: Ruby Cup.

Ruby Cup is a menstrual cup, which is an alternative menstrual hygiene product made of medical grade silicone that can be re‐used up to 10 years. Rather than absorbing the menstrual fluid like disposable products, Ruby Cup collects it during the period. When full, it is emptied, washed, and applied again. In order to assure hygienic use, the cup is boiled and stored between menstrual periods.

Ruby Cup is:

Convenient because: You only buy one product, there's almost never leakage, no more pads/tampons falling out of the bag, no more smelly trash.

Economical because: You buy 1 Ruby Cup and re-use it for up to 10 years (just remember to boil it between your periods in order to keep it clean)

Healthy inside because: Unlike pads and tampons, Ruby Cup does not contain any bleach, perfumes, or chemicals. Instead, it is made of medical grade silicone which is non-alergenic and non-toxic.

Healthy Outside because: Its environmentally friendly. Think of all the water, cotton, etc used to make pads, the transport, and not to mention all of the trash created from women using disposables all over the world...We have to think in sustainable solutions in order to maintain our planet - but that does not mean we should compromise quality! All women know that menstruation is an issue where we want safety above everything else. Anything to avoid leakage and to increase comfort. The Ruby Cup is a better solution on all these levels.

How We Are Creating It

The menstrual cup is a proven success in western and high‐income markets. Currently, there exist twenty menstrual cup
brands on a global scale with a retail price between USD 25 – 45 per cup. Ruby Cup is the only brand targeting low‐income
markets with a competitive price of 1/6th of existing brands ($5/ cup). The packaging and product design is co‐developed
with our target market and thus reflects its needs and wants.

Ruby Cup will be distributed and sold through a network of women entrepreneurs in order to create local employment, while fostering an intimate space where women can talk to women and girls about stigmatized issues and enhance education about menstrual hygiene.

Our Story & Why You Should Support Us

HISTORY:
The start‐up of Makit Ltd. began in Copenhagen in 2010. The founders, Veronica, Maxie and Julie, were all convinced users of an alternative to menstrual hygiene products called a menstrual cup, and true believers that this alternative to other menstrual hygiene products is superior both in convenience, health, economic and environmental sustainability. In the beginning of 2011, the Ruby Cup business idea was developed based on research and market studies that indicated a major challenge for women and girls in developing countries related to menstrual hygiene. 2011, thus became the year, where the founders developed their own product, moved to Kenya and set up a subsidiary to Makit Ltd., Makit Kenya Ltd., for launching their dream business.

FOUNDERS:
Julie, Maxie, and Veronica met each other at Copenhagen Business School, where they studied International Business and Politics, Supply Chain Management, Sustainable Business, and Social
Entrepreneurship. They have worked closely together for the last 6 years, and together, they have a unique complementary energy and drive holding the same ambitions for creating change and
societal development through business. As young social entrepreneurial women, they are dedicated to making a difference for purpose and for profit. All three have several years of international work experience in the fields of human rights, sustainable business/CSR, marketing, trade & commerce,
and supplier management.

We honor Sustainability financially, socially and environmentally. We value Transparency, Integrity and Trust in all business relations. We believe in Partnerships in order to achieve
our mission, as the best innovation comes from an Inclusive Business approach, where our business is co‐developed with our multiple stakeholders.
