Headlines sells, via online store, fashion accessories for bright women. Each item has a quotation (ie, "Only great minds can afford a simple style") worked into the design.
Our mission is to build a community of hardworking women and support them in their varied endeavors. Women are given a choice: Be the hidden bookworm, or dress in a pretty, feminine way and risk not being taken seriously. This is a choice that no one should have to make. Headlines unites beauty and brains in one affordable brand.
The next step for Headlines is designing and producing classic, simple bracelets- each printed with a web code or number- and starting a "pay it forward" system. For example, I would give a bracelet to someone who donates to a good cause (hint, hint!). That person would go online and add their good deed (donating) to an online log. Then, when that person sees another woman doing something great, she would pass on the bracelet. These bracelets will eventually create an invisible chain link of good deeds that connect smart women, and an online community supportive of all Headliners.
As a young woman from a small suburb, my passion for learning was not always supported. I was told "Sweetie, you just don't look smart!" and even had a teacher suggest that I go to college solely for my "Mrs. Degree." Now, I'm loving life at Georgetown University. I started Headlines this past September and was amazed at how many women - senior citizens to high schoolers, many people I've never met - agreed with the message and purchased our products. I could sustainably run Headlines at a small scale, but I know there is demand nationwide. I need your help to reach young women across America.
