Provide sustainable social housing made from recycled materials to large amounts of population, quickly, at a low cost, and with an innovative business model.
The need for inexpensive and secure housing for citizens at the bottom of the pyramid is huge and has a large potential as it has a global demand because no one is providing an affordable and scalable solution in the present. According to UN Habitat about 1 billion citizens around the world are living in inadequate housing in urban areas alone and about 100 million are homeless.
But there is hope! CounstruCycle will revolutionize the construction industry in such a way that every family in the world will be able to afford to live in a decent home, where they can raise a prosperous, empowered and healthy family!
ConstruCycle has developed an innovative, low cost, profitable, scalable and environmentally friendly housing solution to empower the less-economically advantaged citizens. Our product and business model takes two main global challenges and uses them as opportunities: lack of secure and affordable housing for the economically disadvantaged and the accumulation of “waste” being built up globally.
Our primary product is made of safe and locally available raw materials, such as scrap paper. This scrap paper is recycled by a local company using a German technology and converted into self-sustaining honey comb sandwich panels. These panels are used to make the houses, and they have the following characteristics: lightweight, fire and water proof, earthquake resistant, and very low cost.
In order to solve the lack of proper housing what we need is a holistic approach. For this reason ConstruCycle does not only provide a great construction material, but we also help connect the government, private enterprise, NGOs and the poorest of communities, to work on a joint solution that solves both social and environmental problems.
Growing up in the second poorest country in Latin America, which is Nicaragua, I witnessed a lot of poverty, violence and injustice, which affected me deeply. From very early age I recognized that I was privileged comparing to the rest of citizens from my country, and I felt it was my responsibility to give back to those that did not have the same education and opportunities I had. Because I want to be the change I want to see in the world, I have been very proactive and tried different paths to help solve poverty and inequity in my community. This led me to found and co-found several organizations that are change makers and responsible towards society (in the field of education, human rights, and democracy). I have also done a lot of research, read, analyzed and talked to many people to try to understand what the root cause of poverty is. After a long journey, incredible experiences, and some frustration, I realized that the answer to solve poverty in a sustainable way is social entrepreneurship, reason why I am so passionate about it.
While working and volunteering in many organizations, I met citizens with very poor housing and living conditions, which had a profound impact on me, and I realized also the big need for social housing, not only in my country, but around the world, which will only become worse. After realizing how housing is crucial to solve poverty and key for real social development, I became passionate about finding a sustainable housing solution, and decided to start ConstruCycle.
ConstruCycle is different from other organizations as we are very passionate, innovative, like to think outisde of the box. We are trying to make a real difference by taking advantage of new tools such as social media. We are also involving the community to make a change, by listening to them, and asking them to join us in creating this venture. This will ensure that we bring real solutions they need. We are also using a lean start-up model which will garantee our success!
