CLI has already prepared 100 young leaders to empower their own communities in the Congo. With your support, we will reach 100 more by June 2013!
The Congo Leadership Initiative (CLI) develops the next generation of leaders to be catalysts for peace and prosperity in the Congo with an innovative program called the Leadership Institute.
Since 2010, CLI’s Leadership Institute has successfully trained 100 young leaders in the Congo. Now, we want to work with you to double that number by June 2013! There are so many more youth brimming with the potential to change the Congo and we need your support to reach them. CLI is ready to conduct two Leadership Workshops and ongoing monthly meetings as part of our proven Leadership Institute. This will allow us to impact at least 100 more talented youth before next June. Just like Joelle in the video above, each of these young leaders has the potential to change the world. Together, they are unstoppable!
In terms of overall aid, media coverage, and awareness, the Congo receives much less than other developing countries, especially considering its size and importance in regional politics. This is partly a result of the fact that there exists in the Congo a rare combination of overlapping problems to a degree not seen in other countries, which include corruption, poor health, lack of education, violence, crime, lack of business opportunities and more. The depth and severity of the problems in each of these areas is astounding, which is why Congo is in last place (187th out of 187) on the Human Development Index.

The Leadership Institute is a cutting edge, comprehensive curriculum that is groundbreaking in the Congo. It launches with a rigorous leadership practicum called the Leadership Workshop and continues with monthly meetings that ensure life-long affiliation. Nearly every other program in Congo only deals with symptoms of poor leadership such as inadequate healthcare, lack of educational opportunity, and unemployment. The Leadership Institute is unique because it empowers talented Congolese to solve these problems themselves.

Funding for CLI’s programming in Congo will cover transportation costs in Kinshasa, costs to feed all participants, costs for facilities, and costs of materials to conduct the training and maintain accurate metrics. We will fund payment of our facilitators through existing funding sources. The Leadership Workshop is an entry point for students into the CLI community. The Leadership Institute consists of the opening Workshops as well as ongoing monthly meetings and is a catalyst for community action by youth in Congo.
