The Ummah Shop is an Islamic clothing, book and gift store for the entire community. With a growing Muslim population and no established business of this kind, The Ummah Shop aspires to fill this void and inspire others to fulfill the needs of their community as well.
We compile a “coupon book” for the families in East Oakland to bring access to healthy foods and information. Obesity has become a serious issue in our communities. This coupon book will address that issue and becoming easily accessible to community members. This is a tool for building power in our neighborhoods through awareness of healthy food options.
A Girl in the World is inspiring connections through creativity. We are here to create and share stories that enrich relationships between children and adults. Our dream is to encourage and empower children to share their own stories. We aim to create a safe place for truth and spirit, a comfortable place to have conversations that matter. Created to inspire children, unleash their creativity and raise their awareness of their own voice. We hope to instil in children the knowledge that they have the power to affect much positive change in their lives and the world around them.
The Center for Collaborative Change connects people, ideas and resources to make Newark a thriving community full of safety, health and opportunity. Our Community Youth Mapping program incorporates youth into our core mission work of identifying unmet needs and building collaborative solutions that draw on community expertise as well as national best practices.
I plan to implement an exercise club in a drop-in center for the homeless. Our goal will be to use physical fitness to revive confidence and self-esteem.
